Lupin Pharmaceuticals, Inc.Metformin Hydrochloride Extended-Release 500 mg tablets - Voluntary Recall

On June 10, 2020 Lupin Pharmaceuticals, Inc. issued a recall of Metformin Hydrochloride Extended-Release 500 mg tablets that were distributed in the United States. This recall was issued because an unexpected impurity was found in these products that could be a health hazard or safety risk to plan members using product affected by this recall.

The United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recommends that consumers continue taking metformin tablets even after recalls occur, until they consult with their health care professional who can prescribe a replacement. Patients with type 2 diabetes could face dangerous health risks if they stop taking their prescribed metformin.

This recall affects lot number G901203 exp. 12/2020. If your product was dispensed in the manufacturer’s bottle, you can check the lot number on the lower right hand side of the manufacturer’s label on the bottle. If your product is not from lot number G901203, it is not affected by this recall. If your product is from lot number G901203 or if your product was dispensed in a pharmacy bottle, please call your health care professional right away for advice. Your health care professional is familiar with your medical history and can suggest the best treatment option for you.

After you have talked to your health care professional about your treatment options and are given a new or replacement product, please call Inmar Rx, Inc., toll-free at 1‑855‑532-1856, Monday through Friday, 9:00 am through 5:00 pm (ET) to request a product return and reimbursement packet. If you have a product from a recalled batch, DO NOT discard your product. It must be returned to Lupin Pharmaceuticals, Inc. for proper disposal and reimbursement of your out of pocket expense.
